Very nice! I took some art classes in the summer, prior to HS. The teacher had us make stained glass, using pieces of broken glass. After HS, we noticed in her window in the garage, were standing the two panes we made. I made a visit, she was as surprised as I was, and I had a chance to let her know I was part of the class that put that together, but also the books she gave us about Monet, Matisse, Van Gogh were inspirational and never forgotten. How long have you been doing this???
I love stories about teachers like that who make an impression. They cut so much funding for art (and science and music) in the schools now that children don't get the exposure they need. For some kids this is going to be the area they shine in. I like the books on famous artists that they have for children that teach them how to notice different things in a painting. There is so much feeling and beauty in art.
I think I've been doing this for 7 or 8 years. I worked for a potter who taught me. I have slowly, slowly built up my own studio and have started doing jobs. I am slightly annoyed by the holidays keeping me out of my studio.
I am so glad you put up a mosaic link! I can hardly wait to see the sinks...I think the bay art is lovely. I know it might seem trite to do the basic Bay flora and fauna, but I would not be tired looking at a reminder of things I miss most about living in Maryland (besides family, of course!)
Wow! I stumbled across your other blog, then wandered over her. These are great. I especially love the scene with the heron and the crab, wow. I think of all the broken pots and tiles I've thrown away over the years, and now I think what a waste! Damn. I'm going to go stare at my bare bathroom walls and imagune what they could be like... But I won't ever get around to doing it. Sigh.
What do you use for sticking tile to the mailbox? Epoxy?
Damn. My kitchen looks so bleak now, boring white tiles...grr.
Sobriquet- I use a weatherproof construction glue. It sometimes has a brand name of Liquid Nails but they have many types and this one is weather proof.
Dream something up for your walls and then get to it. I actually find it quite relaxing. I buy bisque tiles and glaze them w/commercial glazes to get the exact colors I want plus I add designs to the tiles to give the whole piece more movement and interest so its just not solid colored tile and then break them. I thought about my own kitchen backsplash design for oh...years before I knew exactly what I wanted. Worth the wait.
